Saturday 12th of June

What a rubbish week for weather. It seemed like it was constant wet, windy, cold, or all 3 combined. With that in mind I headed bush for a few hours to scope out the upper Ngamuwahine River that we are thinking about kayaking when we get our next real heavy dump of rain.

So I headed in to the river from the grader blade at the top of Whakamaramara. It was pooring with rain and there was a nasty chilling wind blowing. So I found it surprising to find 3 French tourists out for a walk....all wearing jeans and carrying umbrellas! Haha you gota laugh at some muppets in this world. Within an hour I was soaked through and I had my full hunting kit on, so I can only imagine how they would have been feeling.
By lunch time I had got well and truely into the gorge and I was finding it incresingly difficult to get down to the river to check out the rapids. At around 1, I stopped next to the river and had a brew and something to eat. By chance I had thought to throw in my cooker, a billy, and a couple of Back Country meals...something I would never normally do if going for a hunt but it turned out to be an awsome decission. Within 5 minutes I had a steeming hot brew in my hands, and withen 15 I had a hot feed in my belly. Check out my review for the Back Country Cuisine Classic Beef Curry.
Sick of having a wet arse I decided to head back out, knowing that it would get dark earily with the cloud cover so low. All in all a good little walk on a crappy day. Hey what else would i have been doing anyway haha
