Tim Taylor's Journal Entries Made During his Record Breaking Kayak Tour of New Zealand

On Wednesday the 29th February 2012 Tim Taylor finished a 15 month, 5,529km trip around New Zealand in his kayak. Completing this adventure made him only the second person ever to achieve the feat. He is also the youngest person to have done it and he did in record time. This is the online blog he maintained during his epic journey.

You can take a look at some of the photos from his trip here.

Hey folks. Well it’s been a couple of days since I arrived back in Tauranga and life is starting to return to normal. All of my gear has been cleaned and dried for the final time, so with this done I thought I’d get a final trip report written up for you all.

An Update from Waipu 22/2/12

Hey all, I’ve found me a computer so I thought I’d give you all another update from here in Waipu.

So my last update was from Tokerau Beach in the beautiful Doubtless Bay. I left Tokerau on Saturday the 18th and headed towards Matauri Bay. For the next few days I was to be paddling down a simply amazing stretch of coastline and my biggest regret was the fact that I couldn’t stop to enjoy it all. I was passing bay after golden bay. Half of them had absolutely no inhabitation and if you imagined a couple of coconut palms lazily waving in the breeze you could have sworn that you were looking at tropical beaches. It was a sweet paddle and I’m now determined to get back up these ways for a decent explore. I was also extremely jealous of the boats that were heading out to try and catch a marlin for the start of nationals week…congratulations to anyone who did.

Day 446 - 15.02.12

Well....4 amazing days getting up 90 mile beach and around north cape. The weather could not have been better, and Tim completed three 60 km days with relative ease, followed by a shorter 20km burst to get to Houhora harbour and the luxury of a hot shower.
